Tips For Buying a Guitar

Finding a guitar or violin that sounds just right can be a challenging endeavor for musicians, especially beginners.  In order to play your best, it is imperative that you are confident in the quality of your instrument.  But how do you know which guitar to choose?  Simply choosing the one you think looks the best can often turn out to be a regrettable decision.  Here are a few tips that one should consider when searching for a new guitar.

1)    Research.  Thanks to the internet, a myriad of information about guitars is just a simple click of the mouse away.  Try to find a guitar that fits your playing level.  Also, we recommend reading reviews from other musicians to see what they had to say about certain models or brands.  Plus, it’s always a good idea to compare prices and find a guitar that will fit in your budget.

2)    Figure out what type of composition you want your guitar to be.  Number 2 is very much related to number 1, as this should be another research topic.  Search to see what type of woods, metals or composites would be best for your guitar

3)    Try it out.  Once you have researched what brand and guitar type you want to target, find a local music store or guitar shop and test it out.   Play the guitar the same way you would at home (sitting or standing up, for example), bring your favorite guitar pick and pretend like no one else is in the store listening to you.  Your sole focus should be geared towards determining how the guitar sounds and feels to you.

4)    Try a few more out.  Even if you like your target as much as you thought you would, it is still a prudent idea to try a couple of other guitars out, just to be sure.  If the other guitars don’t feel right, then you know you made the correct choice.
These are just a few helpful tips.  Please leave us a note in the comments section if you have any suggestions for guitar shoppers this holiday season!
